Brad and David invited me to join them for a Supermoto trackday at Infineon's Kart track. I haven't ridden a bike in years. I crash bikes like mad on the track. I'm not sure what they were thinking, but hey, it's not my bike, so yeah, I'm game.
Bingles, Jingles and I met Jenni's mom and fiancee at Monterey Harbor the night before the MotoGP. We crashed on their boat and caught the races the next day.
I had an unexpected free day during a business trip to Vienna, and rather than working (which I do enough on the weekends), I rented a motorcycle and explored the Wienerwald, the "Vienna Woods" at the top end of the Alps.
It's a lovely rural area with all of the beautiful mountain scenery you would expect from Austria. Rolling green hills, soaring rocky peaks, stone castles, tiny towns, and small narrow twisty roads. Perfect! With road elevations below 3000ft and unseasonably warm weather, I didn't have to worry about snow.
Get a bike that's been dropped once or twice, has cosmetic dings, but doesn't have a lot of miles. If you get one with <2k miles, little the original owner could have done to it would be really bad. More mileage = more of a chance they never changed the oil. Don't spend a lot of money on your first bike.
I have no idea how to ride a supermoto. I hang off the inside, stick my knee out, and keep the bike standing up. It feels right but I guess it doesn't work in the dirt. Plus knee-dragging is so last year.
Sara outdid herself this year. This ranks up there with "best present ever".
Mike, Larry and I had been talking about going back to Cow Mountain for a few months. The winter was over, the weather was warmer, and we were sure we wouldn't need a trailer or two trucks.
Mike, David (Larry's son), and I headed to Cow Mountain for some dirt riding.
